Snoopy Dance

There is one thing in a person’s military career that over shadows everything else। While it’s nice to be presented awards and recognition, what really makes a difference is getting more money. This morning, I was doing coverage for my Marines physical readiness test and started to get calls from different people in my command asking if I had seen my Chief yet। Um, no, is there something I need to

Soldier’s Smallpox Inoculation Sickens Son

Two year old boy was placed in the hospital for seven weeks with such symptoms as kidney failure and the loss of most of his skin which has since grown back. He was taken to the University of Chicago’s Comer Children’s Hospital where they said the boy was covered with “mounds of pox”. The story is here.As someone who gives Smallpox vaccinations, when you see corpsman paranoid about giving any

Stepping out of the Shadows

This week has been fairly strange, I've received calls from 4 news agencies, two of them radio, one from a major TV station and a print newspaper. I ended up sending the newspaper to some other bloggers who have not been quotes as much. When it rains it pours. I've forwarded all of the reporters to the local PAO (who’s probably feeling like a press agent these days) and informed my Chain of

Colby won the 2007 Blooker Prize

I was listening to NPR earlier and heard that Colby Buzzell won the top 2007 Lulu Blooker Prize for My War and the interview they did with him. 10,000 dollars is a lot of spare change to most bloggers. Good job man! You ask, what in the heck is a blook? It’s a blog that gets published into a book, Lulu is the usually the publisher of these with their print-on-demand service. The judges were

A further Step into Cyberspace

How soon before they put a Wi-Fi receiver inside of my head so I can access the internet with out using the computer middle man? I was chatting with my cousin Greene in Darwin, Australia on MSN and he asked, do you use Skype? I asked why, I already use a Voice over IP phone though my cable and he asks, can you use that to talk to me for free? Well you know I am about free stuff. So I downloaded

An afternoon in DC in less then 7 minutes

Video of spanding an afternoon with two DC blogging buddies wandering about all over DC. A great afternoon, my lovely bride does a lot of the talking but we all take turns (she looks better then me anyways). No Conference clips here though.

Cooking with Sean

My friend Stacey was talking about making Crepes for her mom on mother's day which made me crave crepes and I'm still playing with the new video camera. I made a minute instructional video on how to make crepes, check out the fine flipping technique! My wife is up in San Jose picking up the dog so I'm at home sick with a cold that I picked up in DC and bored. Yes, I'm a dork. For MaryAnn,I

Blogs Study May Provide Credible Information

The Air Force Office of Scientific Research recently started funding new research into the study of blogs as a way of information analyst and war fighting. They’re analyzing patterns of links and stories, finding the pattern behind the greater picture as a whole. Wow, they’re giving these guys 450 thousand dollars to do it, I wonder if they’re looking to hire somebody who has a very good handle

OPSEC and some advice to survive at Milblogging

The release of Army Regulation 530-1 has caused a rather large stir in the milblogosphere causing a great cry to go up to the powers that be. Myself? I think it’s too early to judge, the rules could use some clarification but they need to be measured between the losses and potential gains. Being a milblogger, I personally know many people who obsess about the war; they’re constantly looking for

Another video from the conference

Posted by Mary Katharine Ham over at Town Hall where she asks about the new Army OPSEC rules. View the video Here. She interviews Blackfive, Bill Roggio, Sarah from Trying to Grok, Me, J.R. Salzman from Lumberjack in a Desert and one of my other mom's, Carla from Some Soldier's Mom. Thanks Mary.(I'm a much better writer then screen personality)

Here's the videos from the Pentagon Channel

I did an interview with SSG Lee McMahon from the Pentagon News Channel and she used my clip for the Around The Services show, great job SSG! The first clip is from the earlier show but includes most of President Bush's address to the milbloggers. The second clip talks to the bloggers, including me (talking about my wife and what I've got out of milblogging), Holly Aho and Andi. The president

My take on the Milblog Conference

The 2007 Milblog Conference brought everyone together, the support team of spouses, family and Angels, and the official DOD people with Secretary of Defense’s Office of Public Affairs New Media Directorate, Pentagon Channel and other military type public relation people. CNN, Fox News, Time, Washington Post, Wired Magazine and the Weekly Standard represented Mainstream media. After the opening

People at the Milblog Conference and what they're saying

This is my continually updating list of people I remember meeting and a list of who’s talking about the Milblog Conference, many of the do a far superior job of telling it then I could have. It’s hard to take notes from the middle of a tornado but I’m picking up pieces all over the place. So far, it sounds good. I’ve also taken over 3 gigs of pictures and videos; they’ll be making appearances

I'm on CNN!

It looks like they took my part of the interview and ran with it, you can watch the video here.Other things we did today, woke up rather late (it has been a busy couple of days) and after a brief meeting some other milbloggers in the lobby. We checked out of the hotel and loaded our bags into the trunk of two fellow bloggers Beth and Wintermellonsoup who are bloggers who just moved to DC from

The Milblog Conference

Andi opened up the milblog conference with this statement, “The next guest speaker was sort of a shot in the dark, let me present The President of the United States”. Laughing and giggling erupted because we all thought she was joking until…Well it was definitely an eye opener, I took a video of the speech but this one looks better (thanks Gateway Pundit!). It’s surprising who is reading what

Cocktail Reception(s)

I could write entire blog post about what the wife and I did before reception today but that will have to come when I have more time. 30 or so of use, more milbloggers then you could shake a stick at went to a somewhat unscheduled pre-flight reception at a local watering hole called The Car Pool. Four beers later, I had to go search for some food to put in my stomach. At the cocktail reception

First night of Meetings

Ahh, tonight tonight, I am doing the thing that bloggers shouldn’t, drunken blogging while my wife writes up postcards. We went out to dinner at Rock Bottom brewery with the who’s who of the military blogosphere. John and Beth of Arrrrrrgggghhh!, Andi of Andi's World, FLB, Carla of Soldier’s Mom, Smash my faithful sailor blogging buddy in crime, Greyhawk, one of the founding fathers, Sgt Hook,

DC Take One

Now I know why Southwest is the cheapest airline, not that the service bad but I’ve grown used to having entertainment on long cross country flights. Nope, a little cup of coffee and a box of dried snack food, one bathroom in the front and one in the back. There is a reason why they’re still making money while charging such a low rate. Other then the lack of TV (I was reading anyways) the
